Euripides Laskaridis & Osmosis
In an undefined emptiness, a cosmic being of unclear gender sways gently on a swing.
Forehead large, belly swollen – with child or just ideas.
Omnipotent and always there, from before the beginning. Immortal, and restless.
Ever in need of a companion: an imperceptible presence, a shadow-figure who slips through the surrounding darkness to make this peculiar cosmos spin.

TITANS is a sixty-minute stage-performance, a duet directed and choreographed by Euripides Laskaridis in close collaboration with costume designer Angelos Mendis. Here too, as in his previous work Relic, Laskaridis uses notions of ridicule and transformation to explore the perseverance of humankind in the face of the unknown. Where Relic was a domestic scene, a mortal in a terrestrial world after the end of reason, Titans opens up an alien space, with gods inhabiting a metaphysical realm in a time before reason. A prequel to the sequel.
Pre-dating the Olympian gods, Titans ruled the universe from before time began. They are among the earliest beings conjured up by the human imagination. Why go back so far, down so deep? To try and understand why we do what we do. What do we truly need? What do we really wish for? Across the globe, we tend to believe in and strive for ideal notions, both of self and the world around us. What stands between these optimal states of being and reality in all its brutality? What is this gap between the ideal and the real? Human weakness? A humbling reminder of our mortality and our limits as a species? Or a titanic failure of an ethical order? If anything, Titans pays tribute to every failed attempt – be it personal or collective – to embody a flawless archetype, an unbroken self, a world immaculate.
Euripides Laskaridis (director, performer) tackles with the themes of ridicule and transformation. He studied acting in Athens’ leading drama school Karolos Koun and directing (MFA) in New York’s Brooklyn College on an Onassis Foundation Scholarship. He has been performing since 1995, working with such directors as Dimitris Papaioannou and Robert Wilson. He began directing his own work in 2000, both stage works and, later, award-winning short films. In 2009, he founded the Osmosis Performing Arts Co and presented works at various Greek theatres. The company’s first solo work, Relic, made it to the Aerowaves 2015 list and opened in Barcelona that year. Since then it has appeared at twenty international festivals in the UK, France, Austria, Italy, Finland, Ireland, Israel, Slovenia, Switzerland and is still touring. Euripides’ new work Titans is an international co-production between Greece, France, Canada, Holland and Portugal.
It premiered in 2017 and before appearing at Théâtre de la Ville – Les Abbesses in November- December 2017 it has been presented at Festival delle Colline Torinesi, the Grec Festival de Barcelona and Julidans Amsterdam. It toured various international festivals in 2018. In 2016 Euripides was awarded one of the inaugural Pina Bausch Fellowships to spend few months alongside the director and choreographer Lemi Ponifasio in New Zealand, Chile and Europe. In August 2017 Euripides was listed in the Hoffnungsträger (Promissing Talent) list of the German magazine “tanz” and was also honored to become associated artist of Portugal’s leading residency organization, O Espaço Do Tempo – Associação Cultural.
