PLI brings together 22 conference chairs, obsessive rhythm and one devoted man. On a small platform, Viktor Černický dives resolutely into the effort for indefinite construction, reconstruction and deconstruction of the Universe. The outcome is an intelligent and playful solo – a physical metaphore for endless human dynamics, patience and striving that turns even the most ordinary objects into incredible pieces of architecture.
Following the baroque philosophy of Gottfried Willhelm Leibniz, PLI is an unpredictable and humorous performance where baroque robustness is replaced with spatial modesty and material minimalism.
Viktor Černický creates works that straddle the fine line between dance, performance, circus, and physical theater. He heads the long-term research project The Body as Object / The Object as Body, which looks at the dynamics of relationships between the object and the subjective individuality of the performer.
His first solo performance Parolapolea earned him nominations in categories Dancer of the Year and Dance Performace of the Year at the 2017 Czech Dance Platform, and was presented with a special award in the form of participation at the Choreographic Research Week at the B-Motion Festival in Bassano del Grappa.
His latest solo piece PLI, presented after 2 years of work in November 2018, received the Audience Award and Total Award of Czech Dance Platform 2019. V. Černický has received a nomination for concept and choreography in Dance and Movement Theatre category at Theatre News Award 2019. With this performance Viktor has become a part of Aerowaves Twenty20 selection.
Alongside his own work, he has also collaborated and performed with Jaro Viňarský, Dominique Boivin, Daniel Gulko and Compagnie Mossoux-Bonté, among others. Currently, he has been working on a new piece Prima: A collective self-portrait (working title) in which public will be engaged instead of professional performers. The piece, with premiere planned for 2021 is now looking for potencial partners for residencies, public meetings, workshops and presentations.
Feedback and reviews:
PLI is not just a great performance, it is a visionary step. A window into the theatre of the future where fundamentals of conventional art forms no longer apply. (Dance Zone, Martin Macháček).
A unique piece, dazzling with its genius simplicity and absolute harmony of all elements. From my point of view it definitely belongs among candidates for theatre event of the season, the author has set the bar really high. (Dance News, Josef Bartoš)
